Treatment

Acne

Acne is a very common skin condition that affects most of us at some stage. Acne is so common that people refer to it as a normal part of growing up. Even though acne is a common problem, it can have serious effects on the way a young person performs at school or college and how they act socially.

Acne can be affected by:

  • Changes during puberty, caused by hormones released during this time
  • Menstruation, which also releases hormones that can worsen the condition
  • Applying makeup, which contains oils that can block the sebaceous glands, leading to acne
  • Stress, while not directly correlated with causing an acne breakout, can have mitigating factors, especially if stress-related picking or scratching of acne occurs.

Pigmentation

Pigmentation is colour in your skin produced by melanin, a natural pigment that also determines eye and hair colour. However, if too much melanin is produced in one area, the result is a brown patch on your skin i.e. hyper-pigmentation.

Treating pigmentation problems at Dr. Skin EMD consists of a six-month program wherein medicines are prescribed and treatments are given every 15 days.

Hair Loss

Hair loss is one of the most common complaints we see at Dr. Skin EMD. Anyone who observes hair fall after combing, brushing, or notices hair becoming thinner should consult a dermatologist. We can assess whether the hair will regrow and if the patient will respond to a medical line of treatment. The assessment is carried out by a detailed history of recent illnesses, recent surgery, menstrual/obstetric history, hair loss in the family, medication within the past six months and crash dieting.
